2000
Not just fillings
In the 2000s, we decided to complete our service by producing not only the filling for sofas, jackets, pillows, duvets and quilts, but also the fabric designed to contain it. This is how our fabric finishing department was born, within which various processes are carried out. A continuous growth to improve manufacturing processes, employing increasingly advanced operating technologies and with the automation of certain stages of the process.
1990
Down alternatives: a new production hub
In the 1990s, the bedding filling market also required the use of new raw materials as an alternative or addition to feathers. We thus began an intensive study and research activity to experiment with the use of synthetic or natural fibres (corn, viscose, tencel, …) through innovative processes, developing a new production hub for the processing and blending of down alternative products.
1980
Tessilpiuma is born
In the early 1980s, the opportunity to diversify production by employing it directly in the manufacture of bedding products (pillows, duvets and quilts) led to the creation of a line of feather and down filled products under the Molina brand. A key strategic decision was to modify the feather processing method in order to "customise" pillows, duvets and quilts according to specific requirements.
1960
From growth to recession
The decline in the availability of raw materials (geese and ducks) characterised this phase of recession: the market witnessed a contraction of these animal farms in Italy and a change in the population's eating habits. From an exporter, the country became an importer of feathers (from France and Eastern Europe), allocating the product predominantly to the domestic market. The upholstered furniture industry, meanwhile, saw a significant increase, as did the manufacture of products for winter clothing which, little by little, became our main sales segment.
1945
Post-war development
After 1945, the increased availability of Italian raw materials and the growth of exports enabled us to achieve substantial development, with significant investments in production machinery.
1930
First production automation
During this era, Italy was a major producer of goose feathers, especially in Piedmont, Lower Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany and Umbria. The feathers, once purchased, were processed in three stages:
  • selection of the raw material (to separate feathers from down);
  • washing of the materials;
  • sterilisation of materials for use in the upholstered furniture sector (armchairs and sofas).
1926
A. MOLINA & C. SPA is founded
We were founded in 1926 by the will of two cousins who, following the family tradition, had been dedicated to the collection and sale of feathers and down since as far back as 1850. This is testified by a document in German, yellowed by the passage of time, in which one of the partners is permitted to travel abroad to sell duvets in France, Switzerland and Austria.
1850
The origins
As early as the mid-nineteenth century, the Molina family collected and selected feathers in Italy, destining them for export to Switzerland and Austria. The foundations of a manufacturing expertise were laid which, handed down over time, would lead to the founding of A. Molina & C. S.p.A.
